Right to Match (RTM) Cards

RTM cards are the IPL mechanic where a player's previous team gets a chance to match the winning bid and retain them, instead of automatically losing them to the highest bidder. It's a frequently requested feature from leagues that want to run an IPL-style format end to end, so it's on our roadmap — but it isn't built into the product today.

Why organizers use this

  • Would let leagues replicate the full IPL-style retention-and-RTM format
  • Would give previous team owners a defined, rule-based chance to retain key players
  • Would integrate with the existing live bidding console rather than a separate tool

Typical use cases

  • A city premier league modelling its format directly on the IPL auction
  • A franchise tournament that wants continuity of star players across seasons

Frequently asked questions

Is RTM available today?
RTM is on our roadmap and not yet shipped. We would rather tell you that upfront than have you discover it mid-auction — ask our team for the current build status before you plan your event around it.
How do leagues run RTM manually today?
Some organizers handle RTM as a manual announcement step — the auctioneer pauses after the winning bid, asks the previous team if they want to match, and records the outcome before confirming the sale in the console.
Will RTM cards be limited per team like in the IPL?
When built, we'd expect a configurable RTM card count per team, similar to how squad and purse rules are configurable today, but this is not finalized.
